U.S. House Bans WhatsApp on Official Devices Over Security Concerns

Obison Erudite trending news on US House ban on Whatsapp over security concerns

WhatsApp Messenger is an American social media platform owned by Meta (its parent company). WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook in 2014, and by 2015 it became the world's most popular messaging application.

The office of cybersecurity flagged  WhatsApp as risk to users due lack of transparency of how user data are being protected and absence of stored data encryption.

As a result, the US House have on Monday, 23rd June, delivered a memo to all House staff on the ban of Meta's WhatsApp messaging application across all government issued devices.

Following the memo, other recommended messaging app like; Amazon.com's Wickr, Microsoft Teams, Signal, Apple iMessage/ FaceTime were listed.

According to Whatsapp Security Advisories page it claims privacy and security as its DNA and its commitment to maintain the highest standard of security.

Since the 2016 rollout of end-to-end encryption, which utilizes the signal protocol designed by Open Whisper system, this technology ensures that messages sent on Whatsapp stays between the sender and the receiver, with no third-party, not even WhatsApp, have access to it
