Microsoft Halts Services to Israeli Defense Ministry After Internal Review

Microsoft Corporation on Thursday, September 25, 2025, announced through a memo by Brad Smith, Vice Chair & President of Microsoft, that it has ceased and disabled a set of services with tye Isreali Ministry of Defense (IMOD).

Following a report by The Guardian on August 6, 2025, Microsoft initiated a review on August 15, 2025. The report alleged that a unit of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) was using Microsoft Azure to store data files of phone calls of civilians from Gaza and the West Bank, which is in violation of Microsoft terms of services.

At that time, no evidence was found against the Israeli Ministry of Defense. However, new evidence has been found and as of Thursday September 25, 2025, Microsoft have informed IMOD of it decision to cease and disable specified IMOD subscriptions and other services, including the use of specified cloud, AI services and technologies.

As Brad said "Microsoft is not a government or a country. Like every company, we decide what products and services to offer to our customers."
